| Rebecca Joy - Vocals Rebecca grew up on a dairy farm in Oxfordshire, with only the moo cows to entertain. At the age of 10 her Mum recognised her talent and thought she really ought to get some singing lessons and join the school choir. Several lessons, exams & auditions later, Rebecca has progressed to work with big bands, jazz bands and house bands. Now here she is singing soul with Kelly's Eye. "I didn't grow up with much mainstream music at home, but I have always been moved by Motown and soul which my school teachers sneakily snuck into my life" says Rebecca. Amazingly, it turns out that Rebecca and Bob (Sax) lived in adjacent villages down Oxford way, indeed Bob knows some of Rebecca’s friends and family. "I'm still in shock that Bob Davis was born in Faringdon 5 miles from my little village of Clanfield, he knows my great uncle in Oxfordshire," Rebecca comments. At first rehearsal, it was discussed that Bob really could be her Uncle!! Career highlights so far: - recording at Pebble Mill studios. Dream: - to sing with Jools Holland. |
| Dean Kelly - Vocals Although Dean enjoys a wide range of music, his real love is rock, both old and new. From the likes of Led Zeppelin and the Stones through to Guns N Roses and Nickleback. Since joining Kelly's Eye Dean has enjoyed playing new music with new friends and is enjoying every moment of it. |
| Bob Davis - Tenor sax Bob started playing music at school both clarinet and violin. On leaving was asked to play saxophone in a band called The Heretics in the south of England. Many bands followed, Newlanders, Steam Machine, J B Roadshow, Blues Grinders, Soulfish and now Kelly's Eye. Over the years he was lucky enough to be in the support band for many famous groups. The Who, Marian Faithful, Donovan, Move, Moody Blues, Free, Herd, Manifred Man, Amen Corner and many more. He wishes he'd taken his autograph book along. His favourite era was that of Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band. |
| Martin Hopkins - Bass Martin comes from a background of playing bass in many other groups and also a wide variety of genres. Hailing originally from the north east, he provides that dependable solid bass line that every band needs. . | | Tim Carlisle - Trumpets/ Horns Tim started playing cornet in middle school where he was lucky enough to have lessons from cornet legend James Shepherd. After progressing to Championship level brass banding he went on to study music at Dartington College of Arts where he gained a diploma. Over the years Tim has played a wide range of music but most loves the freedom of expression and creativity that jazz brings. As well as playing with Kelly's Eye, Tim also plays principal cornet with Diggle brass band of Saddleworth. |
| Gavin Loughlin - Guitar Gavin was a late starter on the Guitar and didn't pick up the instrument untill age 18, inspired at the time by the music of Oasis, Radiohead and Blur. He could often be heard 'practicing' the latest riffs during his lunch breaks, much to the annoyance of his work colleages. A few years later, Gavin attended music college as a mature student and played (quite badly!) in a couple of student bands. Gavin went on to learn about blues, jazz and country music and began to take an interest in composition, arranging and recording. When on stage, Gavin will often try to hypnotize the female members of the audience by swaying from side to side and pulling strange faces when playing a solo. Although this technique has been unsucsessful to date, Gavin still remains hopeful that he will one day have some groupies! | | Garry Fowlds - Drums Garry learned to play Drums at the old Musicians Centre on Cavendish Street in Keighley. He got hooked on the art of drumming as a 14 year old, after sneaking into the old Talk of Yorkshire Night Club to watch Eric Delaney and his Big Band. His first public performance was playing as a deputy in a trio, supporting vocal entertainers on the local club circuit. During the punk era Garry joined a local band Cheap N Nasty. In the early eighties after doing another stint in clubland, he joined Blackpool based originals band, Helicopter touring the universities and theatres, also recording jingles and advertisement backing tracks at Radio Aire Studios in Leeds up until about 1985. After a sabbatical of about 18 years Garry picked up the sticks again playing in on the local pub and club circuit until becoming a founder member of Kellys Eye. His favourite drummers include the original members of The Funk Brothers Benny Benjamin and Pistol Allen. Also Zigaboo Modeliste, Bernard Pretty Purdie and Stewart Copeland. His more contemporary favourites include Chad Smith, Benny Greb, Stanton Moore, and Zoro the Drummer. This list is not exhaustive in fact he likes any drummer that can hold down an interesting groove. | | G P Smout - Sound Engineer "GP" has been mixing live sound for over five years, but became fascinated by sound engineering almost 40 years ago at a John Martyn concert at Leeds University when he spent the entire concert watching JM's sound engineers at work. He would have followed a career path along this line had he known how to! A request from a local music centre to set them up with a PA system eventually led to GP mixing the sound for a Snake Davis concert and he was hooked! Then came requests to work with local bands including Soulfish, Wilful Misssing and other mainly accoustic bands. GP is also a musicain, and was the guitar player in a local ceidlh band for many years. He also plays mandolin and is currently playing with ex Johnny & The Poor Boys squeeze box player, Aidan Williams | | | Please note, that from time to time Kelly's Eye may change or add to the line up on a one off basis, this may be out of neccessity or choice. Don't be suprised to see one of the fantastic musicians below at your event. |
| Tina Kelly - Vocals/ Alto Sax Tina has loved singing for as long as she can remember and started playing the saxophone when she was 12. Joining a local theatre group as a youngster Tina started playing parts in various productions, some amateur then some bigger professional productions. This led to various other opportunities and Tina singing on a record which was produced for 'Children in Need' in 1988. In the years that followed, prior to joining Kelly's Eye, Tina sang around the pubs and clubs in Yorkshire and Lancashire, and later joined local band, Soulfish. Tina says, "One person in the world I'd love to sing with? ......Aretha Franklin without a doubt!" | | Richard Hunt - Bass
Richard began playing bass in his teens, forming a band with school mates, performing around Shipley and Bradford under the name of Udinese. Other bands followed including 'Beastly Mud and Oomsk!' until Richard was asked to join 'kelly's Eye' in January 2007 and retired from regularly playing the band in 2009. He still guests with Kelly's Eye from time to time. Richard's musical influences include The Beatles,The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, T- Rex, Bowie and Oasis. Richard proudly plays a JetGlo Rickenbacker 4001 as influenced by McCartney and the The Jam |
